# Cline

> An open source coding agent with Plan and Act modes

Cline is an open-source coding agent for editors, terminals, and a desktop app. It reads project files, makes coordinated changes, and runs shell commands while responding to their output. Plan mode provides a place to work through an approach before Act mode carries out the steps.

The runtime supports multiple model providers, local models, and compatible endpoints. Repository rules and skills supply conventions, while MCP connects additional tools. Diffs, checkpoints, and undo controls make changes available to inspect as the work proceeds. A CLI and SDK extend the runtime into other development workflows, including recurring checks run from a script.
