# Cryptomator

> Encrypt files and filenames before they enter cloud storage

Cryptomator creates encrypted vaults within storage a person already uses. Users assign a password and unlock a vault as a virtual drive. Files placed there are encrypted locally, including their names, before the storage service synchronizes them. The provider still handles storage and transfer.

Desktop and mobile applications provide access to the vault workflow, and the software is open source. Cryptomator Hub adds centralized access management for teams, with individual accounts for shared vaults and identity-system connections. A person can use a vault for documents, while a team manages which members are allowed to open shared encrypted files.
