# eBird

> Record bird sightings and explore observations from a global community

eBird records bird observations as checklists with a location, date, observation method, and species counts. Birders submit through the website or mobile app, which can record observations offline and track time and distance in the field. Notes, photographs, and sounds add context to a sighting.

Species maps, seasonal charts, regional summaries, and hotspots help users explore other observations and plan where to go. Alerts follow rare or target species. Personal records preserve a birding history, while complete checklists contribute information for science and conservation. A birder can review a likely site, record the visit, and return to its observations afterward.
