> Open-source empire-building strategy

Freeciv is an open-source empire-building strategy game with turn-based play. Players control nations against computer opponents or other people through a client and server. Match rules and settings determine how the competing nations develop and what counts as victory.

Different rulesets allow different winning conditions, with team scores used in some games that end without a particular victory event. Maps, visual tilesets, and other parameters can change the match. Games can be saved and continued later, and multiplayer servers give groups a shared game to return to. The source code is available for adapting the game and contributing changes.
