# Google Authenticator

> Generate verification codes for online accounts, even when your phone is offline

Google Authenticator generates one-time verification codes for websites and apps that support authenticator-based two-step verification. After enabling the feature in an account’s security settings, you scan its setup QR code and use the app’s code alongside your password when signing in. Codes work without an internet connection or mobile service, and multiple accounts can be managed in the same app.

Available for Android and iOS, it offers optional synchronization through a Google Account so codes can be available across devices. You can also use it without signing in and transfer accounts manually with QR codes when changing phones. Privacy Screen adds a device-lock check before someone can access the app.
