# GPUI

> Build GPU-accelerated desktop interfaces in Rust

GPUI is the open-source Rust framework that powers the Zed editor’s interface. Developers can compose views from elements, style them with methods for spacing and layout, and use the GPU to draw each window. For a file browser, for example, an entity can hold the selected file while separate views display the file list and its preview.

For controls that need custom drawing or input handling, developers can implement an element directly. GPUI also provides keyboard action dispatch and test helpers that simulate user input. The framework is available as a Rust crate, and its API can change between releases before version 1.0.
