# Instant Search

> Find local Mac files using descriptions of their contents

Instant Search helps Mac users find files by describing what they remember about the contents. It indexes selected folders and searches documents, images, and scanned pages, so a query can match an idea even when the filename uses different words. Results include useful excerpts and previews for checking whether a file is the right one.

The app supports common document and image formats, including PDFs, Word files, Markdown, HEIC, and JPEG. A configurable keyboard shortcut opens search from other applications. Indexing and searches run locally after the required model download, and changed files are indexed incrementally. The app requires macOS 15 or later.
