# Merlin Bird ID

> Identify birds using photos, sounds, and observations

Merlin Bird ID helps identify birds from a sighting, photograph, or nearby sound. Use a short question sequence, submit a photo, or let Sound ID suggest birds from their songs and calls. Reference images and recordings provide material for comparing a suggestion with what you observed.

The free Cornell Lab of Ornithology app uses downloaded bird information for offline access. Save My Bird builds a personal life list, and location and seasonal filters draw on eBird observations to show likely birds in an area. Sound coverage varies by species and region, so the available methods and downloaded material shape what works during a particular outing.
