Mindustry combines factory construction, tower defense, and real-time strategy. Players build supply chains that turn resources into construction materials, ammunition, and units. Turrets protect the core from enemy waves, while produced units maintain the base or attack enemy positions. The economy supplying a defense is part of the defense itself.

Campaign sectors introduce resources and technology, with distribution between sectors supporting expansion. Multiplayer includes cooperative missions and team competition. Custom games provide adjustable rules, sandbox building, and a map editor, while mods extend the available content. Players can revise production during an attack or coordinate factories and units with friends.
