# SafeGrd

> Database backups with scheduled restore tests

SafeGrd gives database operators a way to answer a practical question before an incident happens. Can the latest backup actually be restored? A daemon runs beside the database and sends encrypted copies to a storage bucket. It can also back up a directory or a mailbox. On a separate schedule, SafeGrd restores a database copy in a temporary environment, counts the tables and rows, and signs a record of the result. The console shows that record along with alerts for late or failed backups. Operators keep control of the decryption key.
