Open-source web server with modular hosting and reverse proxy features

Apache HTTP Server, often called httpd, is an open-source web server for publishing websites and running web applications. It serves static content and can forward requests to application backends through reverse proxy modules. Virtual hosts let administrators serve several websites from one machine, with separate settings for each domain.
Its modular design supports TLS, authentication, access controls, URL rewriting, caching, and load balancing. Administrators manage behavior through server configuration files and, when permitted, per-directory .htaccess files. Different processing modules help adapt request handling to the deployment, while HTTP/2 support is available for modern clients. Apache HTTP Server runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, and other Unix-like systems, making it useful for personal sites, shared hosting, and production services.
