Meet Friendica

Friendica is social networking software that can run on a personal server or an existing public server. Users publish posts, share photos, organize events, and comment on their contacts' updates. Access lists, private groups, and audience-specific profiles control how different material is shared.

Protocols such as ActivityPub and diaspora connect people across compatible services, and RSS or Atom feeds can enter the social stream. Server operators customize the environment through plug-ins and themes. A community can maintain its own social space, while members continue conversations with people using other connected systems. Data exports and optional content expiry provide further controls around the records kept on the server.
