Implantable brain-computer interfaces for restoring communication

Paradromics develops implantable brain-computer interfaces that translate neural activity into communication and digital control. Its Connexus system is designed for people with severe motor impairments who have lost the ability to speak reliably. Microelectrodes record signals from individual neurons, while an implanted chest transceiver connects wirelessly to an external receiver and computer. Machine-learning software interprets those signals to generate a digital voice, written text, or computer commands.
Connexus is being evaluated in the Connect-One clinical study, where participants work with a research team to adapt the system to their communication needs. The device remains investigational and is available through clinical research rather than general purchase. Paradromics is also developing a broader neurotechnology platform, but its current clinical focus is restoring communication for people affected by paralysis.
