Pool connections, route queries, and shard PostgreSQL deployments

PgDog is a PostgreSQL proxy that combines connection pooling, load balancing, and sharding. It sits between applications and database servers, sharing connections and routing queries through a common endpoint. Read traffic can be distributed across replicas, while health checks and failover detection help direct requests to appropriate servers.
For distributed deployments, PgDog identifies configured sharding keys and routes queries to the corresponding databases. Supported cross-shard operations combine results, and transaction features use PostgreSQL mechanisms such as prepared transactions and two-phase commit. Teams can deploy the executable in their own infrastructure, including containerized environments. Configuration and query compatibility need to be evaluated for each workload, with documentation and enterprise options available for larger deployments.
