Private messaging with account IDs instead of phone numbers
Start private chats through invitation links and QR codes

SimpleX Chat starts conversations through connection links or QR codes rather than a shared global user identifier. Users create a profile on their device, send an invitation, and exchange messages once the other person accepts. The app also supports groups and audio or video calls.
Separate profiles keep different conversations and identities apart. Notification modes offer different balances between privacy, delivery timing, and battery use on mobile platforms. The project publishes its source code and supports independently operated messaging servers, including self-hosted options. Someone can create a local profile, establish the connection with a specific person, and then continue that conversation in the app.
