Meet Sunreach
Sunreach helps photographers and hikers work out when the sun will actually reach a particular spot. A published sunrise time tells you when the sun crosses the horizon, but a ridge can keep a viewpoint in shade well after that. Choose a location and date, then move through the day on a three-dimensional terrain model to see where the light will come from. On iPhone and iPad, an augmented reality view lets you compare the sun's path with the skyline in front of you. The website includes a terrain demo you can explore before setting out.
