Meet VoiceGecko

VoiceGecko is a free, open-source dictation app that turns speech into text on the user's computer. A floating GeckoBar or a keyboard shortcut starts and stops recording, then the result is copied to the clipboard or pasted into the application in use. It can help with documents, messages, or detailed instructions for a coding assistant.

Speech recognition runs locally, with audio and transcripts kept off the service's servers. A searchable history preserves previous dictations in a local database, and a personal dictionary helps recognize names or specialist vocabulary. Shortcuts can be customized around an existing workflow. An account is not required for dictation.
