Cloud object storage for applications, backups, and data lakes

Amazon S3 is an object storage service for websites, applications, backups, archives, and data lakes. Users create buckets, upload files as objects, and retrieve them through the AWS console, command-line tools, SDKs, or APIs. Applications can store user uploads, media libraries, logs, and datasets without provisioning storage servers. Bucket policies and AWS Identity and Access Management control who can access the data.
S3 offers storage classes for different access patterns, with lifecycle rules that can move or expire objects over time. Optional versioning, replication, and Object Lock support recovery and retention workflows, while encryption and monitoring tools help manage stored information. Costs depend on the selected region, storage class, requests, retrievals, and data transfers, so teams can match configuration to their workload.
