Meet Godwit

Godwit is an open-source email client for macOS, Windows, and Linux that works with IMAP and SMTP accounts. Its assistant, Wit, can help summarize messages, translate text, read attachments, and prepare replies using a model you choose. You can connect a compatible cloud provider or run a local model through tools such as Ollama or LM Studio.

Synced messages, drafts, and the search index live on your computer, while account credentials use the system keychain. Skills, TypeScript plugins, and MCP tools extend the client with additional actions and integrations. Other agents can also read mail and create drafts through Godwit’s MCP server. Outgoing messages remain subject to your approval, keeping AI assistance connected to a normal email review workflow.
