Keytones

Meet Keytones

Keytones is a Mac menu-bar app that adds configurable sound and visual feedback while typing. Different key groups can use different sounds, including distinct feedback for uppercase and lowercase letters. Users can adjust pitch, duration, damping, and volume, or import their own audio files to create a preferred typing experience.

A glowing screen edge provides an alternative when sound would be distracting. Feedback can change with the selected audio output device, and app-specific rules determine where Keytones operates. A modifier-key gesture can mute it quickly, while Siri and Shortcuts offer additional control. The app detects key presses through Accessibility permission without reading, recording, or storing the typed content.
