Meet Zen Whisper
Zen Whisper is a dictation and transcription app for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. Hold a shortcut, speak, and release it to insert text into the application you are using. Downloaded speech packs handle recognition locally by default; optional cloud engines require your own API keys.
The app can adapt formatting to the destination, maintain a personal vocabulary, expand spoken snippets, and keep searchable transcripts. Longer recordings can be organized by speaker or exported as timed captions, and existing audio or video files can be transcribed. Microphone and Accessibility permissions support capture and text insertion. Initial model downloads, licence validation, and enabled online features still need an internet connection.
