Meet Byter

Byter is a free Mac utility for understanding internet usage and connection performance. It records how much data passes through network connections, displays live download and upload speeds, and provides speed tests with ping measurements. Usage history can be viewed over time and grouped by the networks a Mac has used, making it useful for keeping track of a mobile hotspot or a limited data allowance.

The app runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 14 or later, without requiring an account. Usage history stays on the computer and can be cleared. Optional settings include launching at login and sharing aggregated usage information; the app does not read visited websites or traffic content.
