Monitor Mac performance from customizable menu-bar items and alerts
Inspect USB-C charging, data, and display connections on Mac

WhatCable is a macOS menu bar utility for understanding USB-C connections. It reads information exposed by the Mac about ports, cables, chargers, adapters, and connected devices, then explains reported capabilities and negotiated behavior. Users can investigate slow charging, limited data speeds, display restrictions, and connection faults without interpreting every technical field themselves.
An engineer view exposes original readings, and a bundled command-line tool supports snapshots, structured JSON, and live monitoring. Optional Pro features add more detailed measurements and investigation over time. The app requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later. Its conclusions rely on available reported data; it does not physically inspect cable construction or certify every component.
